What to see
The medina, one of the most complete in Morocco, was rebuilt by Muslims and Jews expelled from Andalusia in the late 15th century. It is calmer than those of Marrakech or Fes, with white houses, craft quarters and fewer touts. Place Hassan II, next to the Royal Palace, links it with the Ensanche, the new town built during the Spanish protectorate.
Getting there
Tetouan is about an hour from Tangier by road, and makes a good stop on the way to Chefchaouen. The border with Ceuta at Fnideq is about 40 minutes away; see Spain to Morocco.
