Toubkal and Imlil
Imlil, about an hour and a half from Marrakech, is the starting point for Jbel Toubkal (4,167 m), the highest mountain in North Africa. Most hikers walk to the Toubkal refuge on day one and climb to the summit before dawn on day two. In winter the route needs crampons and mountaineering experience.
Ourika Valley
The Ourika Valley is the most popular day trip from Marrakech: riverside cafés, Berber villages and a short scramble to the waterfalls above Setti Fatma.
Tizi n'Tichka
The main road from Marrakech to Ouarzazate crosses the High Atlas at the Tizi n'Tichka pass, at about 2,260 m. It is the route taken by tours heading to the Sahara.
Ouzoud Falls
About three hours north-east of Marrakech, the Ouzoud Falls drop around 110 m into a gorge. Barbary macaques live in the surrounding olive groves.
