What to see

Bab Mansour, one of the grandest gates in Morocco, faces El Hedim Square. Behind it lies Moulay Ismail's vast imperial city, with granaries, stables and the Mausoleum of Moulay Ismail. The medina is relaxed and easy to explore.

Volubilis and Moulay Idriss

Volubilis, about 30 km north, is the best-preserved Roman site in Morocco, with triumphal arch, basilica and floor mosaics. Nearby Moulay Idriss Zerhoun is one of the holiest towns in Morocco. Both are usually combined in a day trip from Meknes or Fes.
